A hydraulic core borer may be used in combination with a pile driver to bore concrete, including reinforced concrete, and bituminous conglomerate.

Its most common use is for removing a core around the pile, cut beforehand, in order to remove it and position a new pile in the same hole.

A multiple core borer (with 2 or 4 heads) may be used to create small holes measuring 19/24 mm for the foundation anchor bolts required to anchor piles with a plate bolted onto reinforced concrete edging.
